SAMM Signs a Contract with CERN for Fiber Optic Cables and Accessories

Our local production "Multiple Fiber Connector: MPO/MTP" project; which we first brought to our agenda with the recommendation of Vodafone Managers at the forum titled "Supporting Domestic Production in Vodafone 4.5G Technology" on January 17th 2017, and then we implemented with KOSGEB R&D support; has reached a different horizon today by an agreement that assigns SAMM Teknoloji as a supplier for CERN.

The agreement and tender processes we started with the TOBB CERN Industry Liaison Office in 2019 has been successfully completed, and SAMM Teknoloji has signed a 3+4 year contract with CERN for the supply of fiber optic cables and accessories.

Within the scope of this contract, the SAMM Teknoloji R&D and production facilities that are established in Gebze Organized Industrial Zone (GOSB); will present their "Made in Turkey" products in accordance with CERN technical requirements.

CERN (The European Nuclear Research Center), which includes more than 3000 physicists and close to 15 thousand scientists was founded in 1954 with the participation of 12 European countries. It is located on the border of Switzerland and France and today 23+8 countries, including Turkey, benefit from it as a nuclear and particle physics research center.

The Large Hadron Collider, which was initiated by CERN on September 10th 2008, is used for experiments that involve taking 40 million high-resolution photographs per second, and they are of great importance for science and history. That is why fiber optic cables and accessories produced by SAMM will be used for these extraordinary data transfers in such experiments. This high level of data can only be transported by fiber optic cables with next generation multi-fiber connectors, in which SAMM Teknoloji is specialized.

The products we will supply within the scope of this contract and CERN specifications will be the following:

  • Fiber optic interconnection cables with MTP/MPO, SC, LC, E2000 connectors on specially designed cable structures.
  • Fiber optic cables resistant to nuclear effects and with different CPR classes
  • Specially designed panels, parts and accessory products

Our contribution to this achievement, was highly rewarded by the endorsement and participation of the first TOBB president Mr. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, the CERN Turkey Representative Mr. Hakan Kızıltoprak, the participants from Vodafone Mr. Can Başol, Mr. Cüneyt Kıpçak and Mr. Özkan Çalışkan. In addition to the participation of Head of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry and Data Center Infrastructure and Procurement Team Mr. Ayhan Zeytinoğlu, Mr. Murat Erhan and West Directorate of Kosgeb Kocaeli.

This success and privilege is for all of us and we would like to thank all who participated and all of our colleagues who contributed to every stage of approval, prototyping and factory acceptance tests.
