UNDERWATER ACOUSTIC SYSTEMS - Acoustic Vector Sensor

WITH A SINGLE SENSOR

Sensor arrays are often used to determine the direction of underwater acoustic sources. Acoustic vector sensors can make direction estimation by taking a series of measurements point to point. The direction of the target can be determined using the measurement vector. If the environment parameters such as sound velocity profile, bottom nature are well known the location of the target can also be estimated.

APPLICATIONS AREAS

  • Underwater test area for various platforms
  • Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks
  • Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs / ROVs / AUVs)
  • Coastal, Harbor and Bosphorus Security
  • Protection of Pipelines, Strategic Resources, Historical Shipwrecks
  • Seismic Research
  • Biological Research

SPECIFICATIONS

AVS is a sphere of about 10 cm in diameter. It includes a three-axis accelerometer that captures particle velocity, and soft PZT ceramics that can detect acoustic pressure. Despite its physical dimensions, it is designed to operate at frequencies between 1-4 kHz. Real-time registration, evaluation, built-in testing are offered via the operator interface. A single AVS provides a bearing prediction with an error of less than 5 ° for continuous wave or pulse detection. This performance of AVS has been field tested and verified. Thanks to its low frequency passive listening ability, it has the ability to detect, track and classify ships and underwater vehicles from a distance.
